How Amara Okafor turned a “humiliating” 35-guest wedding into the most talked-about celebration Lagos had seen all year
Amara, 29, had 180 people on her list. A visa backlog, a bereavement overseas and a string of last-minute declines cut it to 35 — six weeks before the date.
“I remember sitting on my bathroom floor doing the math over and over, hoping I'd miscounted,” she says. “I wasn't just sad. I was embarrassed. I kept picturing our reception hall — built for 200 — with rows of empty chairs in every photo.”
